   Writers: Ian Irvine (1950 - , Australia)
  About the author

Ian Irvine was born in Bathurst, Australia, in 1950. He went to the University of Sydney and studied geology, and gained a PhD in marine science (specialising in pollution) in 1981. He established his own consulting firm in 1986, and carried out environmental work in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region for a variety of clients. This consultancy work took Ian to such exotic localse as Mauritius, Bali, Fiji, Tonga and Sumatra. Along his way, Ian has worked in a selection of jobs, including sweeping in a cement factory, a research assistant in microbiology and an environmental project manager.

Ian Irvine began worldbuilding while working on his doctoral thesis. After outfitting his worlds with ecosystems, geology, meteorology, ocean currents, different types of forests, peoples, cultures, trade routes and ten thousand years of history, Ian began writing scenes set in his worlds. Ian lives with his family in the mountains of northern New South Wales.
