Edwin C (Toby) Johnson, PhD is a former Catholic monk and comparative religions scholar turned psychotherapist, activist, community organizer, and gay entrepreneur. With Kip Dollar, his lover since 1984, he's operated the lesbian and gay community bookstore in Austin TX 1988-1995, and two gay bed and breakfasts in the country, first in the mountains outside Denver and then in Texas Hill
Country near Austin.

Toby Johnson assisted Harvard researcher Toby Marotta in producing two titles: The Politics of Homosexuality and Sons of Harvard: Gay Men in the class of 1967.

From 1997 to 2003 Johnson edited the modest, but highly respected, quarterly White Crane: A Journal of Gay Men's Spirituality.
